New Harris vs. Trump poll: This candidate takes a 4-point lead

A new 2024 presidential poll shows Vice President Kamala Harris with a narrow lead over former President Donald Trump as the race comes down to the wire.
The latest ABC News/Ipsos poll, found that Harris has a 4-point lead over the former president among likely voters. The poll found that 51 percent of likely voters backed Harris while 47 percent supported Trump. Harris’s support is up from when the poll was last taken earlier this month, where she had just a 2-point lead over Trump among likely voters.
The race was closer between Harris and Trump among all registered voters polled, with 49 percent supporting Harris and 47 percent backing Trump.
The poll also showed that Harris has an advantage among Black and Hispanic likely voters. She has 90 percent of support among Black likely voters and 64 percent of support among Hispanic likely voters. Meanwhile, Trump has 7 percent of Black likely voters supporting him and 34 percent of Hispanic likely voters.
Ian Sams, a spokesperson for the Harris campaign, boasted about Harris’s numbers in the new poll among Black men and Latino men, noting that she is winning those groups by larger margins than now-President Biden did in 2020.
This poll was released before the Trump campaign had to distance itself from comedian Tony Hinchcliffe’s insulting remarks made at the former president’s rally at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. Hinchcliffe insulted Puerto Rico by comparing it to a “a floating island of garbage” and also made disparaging remarks toward Latino people.
The Trump team quickly reiterated that Hinchcliffe’s comments do not reflect the campaign’s views as his comments drew backlash from Latino and Puerto Rican public figures. However, the insults could pose trouble for Trump as he hopes to win the Latino vote.
The poll was conducted among 2,808 adults, including 2,392 registered voters and 1,913 likely voters. The margin of error is plus or minus 2 percentage points for all adults and registered voters and the margin of error is plus or minus 2.5 percentage points for likely voters.
This poll comes as most other national surveys have shown a tied race between Harris and Trump with just over a week to go before Election Day. However, national polls do not tell the full story because the winner of the Electoral College will be decided at the state level.
A recent CNN poll, conducted by SSRS and released Friday, found that Harris and Trump are tied at 47 percent of support each among likely voters. The poll’s findings echo a poll from The New York Times/Siena College that also dropped Friday, which found that each candidate received 48 percent of support among likely voters.
