    Description

My husband and I have owned and restored over 1000 antique and vintage Singer sewing machines, and both of us have a special interest in treadle (foot-powered) models. There’s just something fascinating about providing your own power to make things with your machine. We have accumulated a small stock of old treadle parts and the parts aren’t doing anyone any good sitting in our workshop, so we have decided to send them on to where they’re needed.
Many treadle frames have come to us over the years with missing or improvised fasteners (or sometimes just wired together). Fortunately,
Singer used only two basic types of hardware to connect the two side legs of a cast iron treadle frame with its center brace, and the year 1900 is a rough guide to when things changed. Most cast iron treadles made prior to 1900 were connected by conical-head (tapered head) bolts with nuts, and those made after were held together with machine screws.
These machine screws came from a Singer treadle frame sold new in 1921, and they fit cast iron Singer treadles manufactured from roughly 1900 to 1940 that have the name “SINGER” in open block letters on the center brace as shown in photo three (
please note that nothing shown is photo three is included in this listing
.) To be absolutely certain that this is the correct hardware for your frame, look for three holes drilled through each of your frame’s side legs, two at the top and one at the bottom. The holes will have straight, not tapered sides, and will measure thirteen-thirty-seconds (13/32) of an inch in diameter.
The screws are three-eighths of an inch in diameter, with heads that measure nine-sixteenths of an inch and a length of one-and-nine-sixteenths inches (photo four). They are in good, original condition and have been brushed off but not thoroughly cleaned to match the patina found on most treadle frames.
