    Description

Singer manufactured the Model 66 from 1902 until 1956. It was a wonderful sewing machine but lots of confusion and grief has been caused by the way the presser foot and attachments were installed on its presser bar, so please bear with me for a moment while I explain.
From 1902 until 1923, the standard presser foot and attachments mounted on the back of the presser bar instead of the side, a design known as “back-clamp.” To the best of our knowledge, Singer Models 66-1 (treadle) and 66-3 (hand-crank) are the only sewing machines ever manufactured with this design.
Photo number four shows the presser foot mount (the upper part), along with the “L-shaped” standard presser foot (the lower part), installed on a “back-clamp” Singer 66-1 sewing machine.
    Important note:
Only the upper part, the presser foot mount, is included in this listing. Nothing else shown in photo four is included.
The presser foot mount is hollow at the top (photo one). It slides up over the bottom end of the presser bar and is held in place by the small set screw shown in photos one and two. The standard presser foot and the various attachments – tucker, ruffler, foot hemmer, binder, gatherer, etc. – are then installed on the back of the presser foot mount and held in place by a thumb screw.
    Fun Fact:
In 1923 Singer changed the presser bar design on the Model 66, eliminating the presser foot mount. The “back-clamp” standard presser foot and attachments were replaced by the familiar “side-clamp” or “low-shank” design used by other Singer machines of that period, and still found on many sewing machines today.
Please remember that this presser foot mount will only fit “back-clamp” Singer Model 66-1 and 66-3 machines manufactured from 1902 until 1923. The mount and its set screw are genuine antique Singer parts. They have been cleaned and are ready to go to work.
My husband and I have owned and restored over 1000 antique and vintage Singer sewing machines and know quite a bit about them, so please ask if you have questions! We are happy to help you.
