Description
A very refined brush washer that would have graced a scholar's table. The flambé glaze shows tones of purple, a light – almost periwinkle- blue and browns. The thick glaze has an oatmeal texture on one side and is smoother one on the other. The glaze color reminds me of Jun wares.
The shape of the brush washer imitates Kangxi beehive brush washes, with a flat mouth, a simple, rounded shoulder, and straight sides. The foot has been nicely trimmed and shows the brown Shiwan clay. The inside, base and foot ring are unglazed. The glaze has good control stopping just above the foot. An iron bloom is visible along the edge of the glaze.
MEASUREMENTS
4 1/4" (10.8 cm) diameter x 2 3/8" (5.9 cm) tall. Weighs 9.5 oz (265 g)
CONDITION
There are no cracks, chips, breaks, or repairs. There is significant wear on the very narrow high point of the foot that touches a table. There a bit of cement residue on the base. The glazes are bright and colorful.
